Project Reflection Report
Introduction
I have been recruited by a software development company as a trainee project manager and have
been asked to manage my first software development project and will be working alongside Brunel
University who is creating a library catalogue system. I will be doing this by researching and
evaluating two workable solutions to solve the IT problems. I will also be identifying and evaluating
the project risks and constraints and suggesting viable solutions to control these risks. After that I
will be creating a feasibility study of the hardware and software needed for these solutions and how
much it will cost for the library to implement.
Project Management Skills
Project management skills are skills that are the core skills that are needed to make a
project and without them the project will not be able to be finished. The person in charge of
the project must have the necessary skills to be able to lead and manage the project so to
do this they will need to be able to have skills which will help them do this. In my report I
will be discussing the skills needed for a project manager to effectively manage and lead the
project. The skills that I will be talking about will be planning, monitoring, risk, and issues.
Planning
The first project management skill I am discussing is planning. Planning skills in project
management is especially important as a project will need to be planned out properly. The
project manager must have planning skills when doing the project otherwise the project
may not be completed properly, and the team can ruin the project and not make it to the
specific requirements given. So planning is essentials when making a project.
Monitoring
Monitoring skill is to actively review the progress of the project while it is going on. This is
also the responsibility of the project manager to make sure that the project is going
smoothly, and everything is going to plan. If the project is not monitored regularly mistakes
can be made and the project manager would not know which then can lead to the project
being not finished on time.
Risks and Issues
Risks and issues are also a skill that the project manager will need to have as the project
manager and the project team will need to identify all the risks and issues that could happen
before starting the project to ensure that there are no problems when doing the project.
Some risks and issues can appear when doing the project are things like requirement
changes and performance issues. So, by the project manager identifying all the risks and
issues it will reduce the risks of them happening when doing the project.
