For P3/M3 I am going to explain what the different
types of fitness training methods are and how they
can improve your fitness levels. I will also explain what
type of athletes use these fitness training methods
, Flexibility
• Ballistic stretching – This uses the momentum of a moving limb in an
attempt to force it beyond its normal range of motion. This is stretching,
you would normally stretch before an exercise, this is also known as
warming up.
• When you use ballistic stretching you bounce into a stretched position,
using the stretched muscles as a spring which pulls you out of the
stretched position. (E.G. bouncing down repeatedly to touch your toes.)
This type of stretching is not considered useful and can lead to an injury. It
does not allow your muscles to adjust and relax in the stretched position.
• Ballistic stretching should only be used by athletes who know their own
limitations. The type of athletes who would use this type of stretching
would be gymnasts because they d a lot f summersaults and flips,
therefore stretching their body beyond limitation.
