Unit 8 Assignment 1
Sophie Haines

Evaluating the recruitment and selection process of Tesco's
A: Examine how effective recruitment and selection contribute to business
success

Explain how a large business recruits and selects giving reasons
for their processes
Tesco’s is a one of the leading UK supermarkets with the highest market share in the
industry, with stores over 12 different countries, they offer food products and home
products however they branched out into insurance, finances like credit cards and
mobile service this is how they have become the multimillion-pound company they
are.
Tesco is under a public limited company ownership (PLC) meaning public can own
shares and dividends in the company. Companies use primary research from their
databases to help find out how effective their staff have been in each section of the
business. companies have to think strategically to find what’s best for the company,
having lower staff employment is bad even if saving money on wages since they
may not be able to keep up with the demand but is same for hiring to many people
as you may be paying people to stand around and do nothing. The aims of Tesco's
are to expand their online shopping and delivery service and theirs goals are to
provide essentials to customers at a good value and quality. By targeting a larger
market of people who are not able to shop in store it will allows them to increase
sales turnover.
Workforce Planning
Workforce planning is the process of analysing an organisation likely future need.
Business needs to match the skills, knowledge, and number of employees to their
current and future needs, in order to work out these needs they will have to review
the current needs and skills in their employees. Tesco has a workforce planning
table, and which includes appraisals every three months so that it can encounter the
demand for staff. Some skills they would need to assess at Tesco's are things like
putting gout stock, and serving customers face to face, there’s lot of reasons a
business will recruit:
Growing business –
This meaning the number of customers or target market is growing or increase in
sales, the employs may be needed locally or nationally and will help fulfil the
demand. Since Tesco's market share is still growing and they are always making new
products to target their customers wants and needs they continually hire staff for
different sectors to meet the customer service and stocking demands.
Job roles changing –
With all the advances in technology and social changes it alters the ways the training
and jobs are performed, things like the introduction in self-service tills in stores in
2002 lead to new job roles of working on these tills and providing customer service.
As jobs change the workers will to if they cannot meet demands Tesco will not
hesitate to replace them will people who can fill the role.
Changing systems –
As the world is changing with technology so does the processes and systems as well
as the skills and behaviours of employees needs changes too. An example of this
Tesco's is with online shopping new shops have to be created for employees who
pack these orders as well as delivery drivers.
New vacancies (created by expansion) –
Staff may be needed to fill the new aps in the market and environment. Such as new
product launches this requires specialist staff to help sell.
Vacancies caused by staff turnover –
There are tens of reasons for staff to leave the workplace, such as personal reasons
like moving areas or a new job or promotion for higher wages.
Staff internally promoted –
