In this assignment, I will explain how the training needs for John Ruskin
College are linked to the different level within its structure.

To begin with, I will look into the long term strategic objectives of the
organisation. John Ruskin College aims to maintain its ‘outstanding’ Ofsted
grading in order to remain number one in the area, expand the college and
maintain financial stability… As a result, it should consider introducing
finance and budget management training such as external management
degrees or MBA and trainee manager opportunities in order to ensure that
the staff are making full use of their potential and further enhancing their
skills and knowledge.

This could also be helpful as if a managerial employee leaves, and then there
will always be a back-up person with the adequate and suitable skills to take
over that role efficiently. There could also be a new job rotation initiative
which would enable teachers to get an insight of their colleagues’ roles and
tasks. This will also cut down on advertising and recruitment cost of new
staff to fill in a vacancy as there will be experienced internal candidates,
which means that less money will be spent, eventually increasing turnover.

In terms of operational objectives and short term goals, the college needs to
expand its training programmes in order to further improve productivity.
Adequate training should be provided when new technology is introduced;
for instance, to guarantee quality teaching methods, teachers should be
confident and comfortable with using the new smart boards, projectors and
other equipment which can be used to make teaching and learning more
effective.

As a result of computerisation, less staff will be needed to work in the college
for admin purposes for example, as everything can be done electronically
saving time and money. Also, to meet the expectation of the exam boards
and keep up with changes, Edexcel training should be provided in order to
make sure that teachers are aware of all the latest rules and curriculum. In
addition to this, training on health and safety should also be provided and
thorough induction processes should be planned in order to bring a sense of
safety to both students and others. Employees could also receive training on
health and safety particularly at induction to satisfy the requirements of the
Health and Safety Act. This will offer everyone a good environment and
make everyone feel secure while in the building.

In addition to the above, another short term objective would be the
succession and training for promotion. The college could enforce a mentor
or buddy training to coach new staff and train them while informing about
procedures and codes of conducts around the building. Training could also
be provided to improve job performance through role playing, peer
observation and learning walks. This will be beneficial as it will help close
