a)
i. Multicultural Education – Multicultural education is designed to provide
an equal educational experience for all types of people. This includes
different ethnical groups, women, and students with special needs.
Example: South Africa has diverse cultural groups and multicultural
education has been applied in many schools to accommodate for all of
them.
ii. Prejudice – Prejudice is defined as a judgment or opinion against or in
favour of a person or thing formed without the examination of the facts.
Example: You do not like someone because they do not follow the same
religion as you do.
iii. Assimilation -This is when a minority group of people in the society are
pressured to adopt the values, language and the norms of the majority
or the dominant social group.
Example: A man or women must marry a person from the same race or
religion.
b)
i.
• There are learners that belong to different ethnic groups. Some learners
are coloured, some are Zulu, and others are Indian South Africans.
• There are learners that belong speak different home languages.
Coloured and Indian learners speak English; however, majority of Zulu
learners speak isiZulu.
ii. All the learners are treated equally. The level of education and the
manner that it is presented ensures that no learners feel excluded, as all
learners are equal and have a right to a good education. There is no
segregation of learners. Learners that are isiZulu home language
speakers may experience difficulty in interpreting information in English;
however, they are assisted until they understand.
