In my discussion and during my interview with Lacey a 21-year-old friend of my
daughters. I spoke about the bias and assumptions amongst the “poor perpetuate” or “ghetto
poor”. I interviewed Lacey to see how her perspective of this class differs from others who are
older and possibly grew up with a different belief system. Initially, I thought that having a female
that I believed had a much different belief system than myself would offer me a different and
possibly a new perspective to the social problem. What I found was that her thoughts were
similar to my own just with more clarity than I have had. As I reflect over the discussion posts,
the feedback that I have received from my classmates and the interview that I had with reflection
I find it interesting to see the similarities that most of us have and wonder why the text may not
have had that insight into this particular social problem.
I noted from the text the different views of how bias and assumptions about the poor
perpetuate the continuance of the problem. In the reading it shares about the inner city poor and
them not having jobs continues to reflect in their suffering and inability to climb out of poverty.
My classmate Katherine shared “Those who are struggling are typically wrote of by society.
What I mean by this is that it is assumed they will also be in need and unable to improve their

in fact expect to see a change? When I sat down and spoke to my interviewee about these same
discussions, she elaborated on how if for decades we see a community struggling with
employment, advancement opportunity and dub them “poor” and do nothing as a society about it
are we hindering that community? After some thought I concluded, I believe we are. I know that
