,Abstract
This research paper is written in order to find out how Europe and its citizens benefit from the
Schengen Agreement. The Schengen Agreement is an agreement where a lot of people benefit in the
field of free movement, safety and trade. Due to the Agreement European Union citizens can travel
within the Schengen area without undergoing any passport checks and border controls. With the
help of the VIS and the SIS, national authorities can check whether a person has the right document
and the right to stay in the Schengen area. The Schengen Agreement also stimulates the economy
through trade. As a result of the removal of border controls, there are no longer ques at the borders
and therefore it will cost less time to travel from A to B. Due to the open borders it is also easier to
migrate to another country. These migrants also stimulate trade, because they take products from
their home countries with them. Institutional, governmental and academic sources were used in
providing the answer to the research question.
