IMMUNIZATION SCHEDULE IN THE UNITED STATES 2 Immunization schedule and Preventive Health It is always good to make recommendations by determining needed vaccines according to age, intervals between immunizations, assessing for any medical indications, and having a review on special situations of clients. Immunizations help protect a child from getting illnesses in the future by making sure the body develops antibodies against disease such that any subsequent exposure prevents the disease from having an impact in the body. This paper tries to elaborate a few cases under different growth and developmental stages of a child. Case # 1 For a newborn who is in the nursery, born at 3.5 kg, all maternal labs being negative, and the infant’s exam normal, the vaccine she should receive is Energex B, or Recomb Ivax HB, a Hepatitis B Vaccine. The vaccine is administered within 12 hours after birth. This vaccine is effective against all known subtypes of the hepatitis B virus (Robinson, et al., 2019). Birth dose for the infant born when the mother is HBsAg-negative (Hepatitis B surface antigen-negative) is as follows: 1 dose within 12 hours of birth because the infant is stable. An intramuscular suspension of 5mcg/0.5 ml of Recomb Ivax HB or a 20 mcg/0.5 ml of Engerix B administered within 12 hours of birth according to the Centre for Disease Control-CDC (2020) (Best Practices Guidance of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices-ACIP). If the mother’s status is HBsAg-positive, then the dose should be administered as follows: 1 dose each of Hepatitis B vaccine (either Recomb Ivax HB or Engerix B) and Hepatitis B Immune Globulin (HBIG) is administered in separate limbs within 12 hours of birth regardless of weight. HBsAg and anti-HBs are tested after 9-12 months. And if the mother's HBsAg status is unknown during delivery, then Hepatitis B vaccine is administered to the infant within 12
