Hormones: Chemical signals/ messenger that travel through the blood.
Characteristics of Hormones
Are organic chemical messengers.
Are proteins, some maybe steroids, polypeptides or amino acids.
Work in an integrated system (part of a team).
Secreted in one area and work in another area – target the organ.
Have specific effects which are generally long term.
Are transported in the blood.
