➢ Dendrites – carry impulses TOWARD the cell body afferent pathway
➢ Axons – carry impulses AWAY from the cell body efferent pathway
❖ Covered my myelin (which is formed and maintained by the
Schwann cell) except for at the nodes of Ranvier
interruptions of the myelin sheath
❖ Saltatory conduction – the flow between segments of myelin
that leads to increased velocity
*** conduction depends on presence of myelin and
diameter… larger the axon, the faster the rate
3. How to classify the neuron
