Carbohydrate Fermentation Lab Report
Date: 08/10/2018
Pgs. #: 85-90
Introduction
The purpose of this lab is to learn about fermentation of carbohydrates and how biochemical
tests are used as chemical indicator. Fermentation is a metabolic process that is performed by
different types of bacteria. Many bacteria produce liquid, gases, or both, during fermentation. In
this lab we will test four different types of bacteria in lactose broth and dextrose broth, to
determine if fermentation occurs.
Procedure
Day One
Professor inoculated each tube with appropriate organism (E. coli, S. epidermidis, S. marcescens,
and B. subtilis) and incubated the tubes.
Day Two
Observation
The next day, we examined the inoculated tubes for color changes and production of gas.
Lactose Broth
