HOOFDSTUK 1: GRONDONDERZOEK EN GRONDWERK
1.1 inleiding
bij elke bouwwerk maakt men gebruik van grond als funderingsgrondslag. De aard en
samenstelling van grond bepalen de type fundering (om stabiliteit te verzekeren).
Grond= verzameling van kleine vaste deeltjes met poriën tussen ( water of lucht), van
minerale of organische samenstelling.
Ongeroerde grond: grond die door verwering of omzetting ter plaatse is gevormd.
Geroerde grond: grond die werd uitgegraven.
Grond is geen klassieke materiaal, want het is:
- niet-elastisch
- niet-isotroop
- niet-homogeen
vaststellen van het type grond is zeer moeilijk. Eerst moet men laboproeven en proeven ter
plaatste uitvoeren om de eigenschappen te kunnen bepalen.
1.2 Grondsoorten in België
Grond= een mengeling van verschillende grondsoorten.
Naamgeving: overige samenstellende soorten + hoofdbestanddeel (= mengsels van
grondsoorten) + vreemde bestanddelen

1.2.1 Rots
Vindplaats : Hoog-België
samenstelling en kenmerken :
- gesloten structuur
- hard, onsamendrukbaar
geschikt als funderingsbodem :
- als hij niet verweerd is
- er geen holten aanwezig zijn
- de laag niet te schuin loopt (schuiven)

Vindplaats : overal in België
samenstelling en kenmerken :
- loskorrelig materiaal : 2 tot 80 mm
- sterk waterdoorlatend
- naargelang de vindplaats : zeegrind, gebroken grind, riviergrind,…
bruikbaar als funderingsbodem :
- grindlaag min 3 dik
- niet te schuin
1.2.3 Zand
Vindplaats : Vlaanderen en Kempen
samenstelling en kenmerken :
- loskorrelig materiaal
- sterk waterdoorlatend
- ngl de vindplaats : zeezand, rivierzand
bruikbaar als fundering :
- zandlaag min 3 dik
- draagvermogen neemt af bij kleinere korrel
1.2.4 Mergel
Vindplaats : grens Nederlands Limburg en zuidelijk deel België
samenstelling en kenmerken :
- zacht gesteente gevormd uit leem en kalk
- bevat veel fossielen
- verweekt door indringend water
bruikbaar als fundering :
- onttrokken aan indringend water
- niet te schuin lopend
1.2.5 Klei
Vindplaats : Ieper, Kortrijk, Boom, Condroz, lotharingen, …
samenstelling en kenmerken :
- sterk samenhangend; gebonden materiaal
- zeer fijne korrels :
- slecht waterdoorlatend
- zwelt en krimpt door water
