In this assignment I will be explaining the strategies and communication techniques
used with individuals with different needs to overcome different challenges.

Practical challenges
In health and social care there are individuals that are vulnerable to different types of
challenges one of these challenges is practical challenge. This when the individual
cannot do things because of a lack of resources. As Aisha suffers from learning
disability (dementia) this type of challenge can affect her, for example she is not
eating or maintaining her personal hygiene given that she needs support. The way a
professional could identify a practical challenge is by using focus groups which is a
group where professionals come together to share ideas and to discuss issues and
changes in someone's care plan to help improve it for the individual. The focus group
may be used because the professionals have noticed that an individual is struggling
with types of challenges and they could share some ideas to create a strategy. In
Aisha case the professionals could help to minimize Aisha's challenge by letting
Aisha stay home but having a career with her 24/7.

Motivational challenges
Within the health care there are vulnerable people who have different types of
challenges that they face one of these is a motivational challenge. A motivational
challenge is when the service user has a lack of motivation to get better or better
themselves in certain aspects of their life. This can be applied to Valerie as she
might have a lack of motivation in changing her lifestyle. To identify Valerie’s
challenge, a professional could create a questionnaire and see how motivated
Valerie feels. Once the challenge has been identified the professional can create a
strategy such as talking to Valerie and reassuring her to help her overcome her
challenge. This will help Valerie as she will feel motivated to change her lifestyle
which might help her with things like losing weight as she will be less stressed
because of worrying about the bullying.

Communication challenges
A communication challenge could be if the service user loses their sigh or hesitates
in their speech. In Billy’s this could apply to him as he suffers with visual impairment.
To Identify this challenge professionals could observe Billy to identify if he has a
communication challenge. The professional could observe Billy when he is talking to
someone he is comfortable with, so he is relaxed and sees if he has a
communication difficulty.

In health and social care there are different strategies to overcome challenges.

Opinion Leaders
To overcome this challenge, professionals could use opinion learners, these are
people who have a strong social effect, because they affect a lot of people and they
can ask for advice at any time that benefits people as they trust that person. This

would benefit Aisha as her career can ask the leader a variety of questions about the
type of care Aisha would need and how her learning disability can affect her in a long
period of time. This would be in the best interest for Aisha’s wellbeing. I used opinion
leaders for Aisha because she has dementia which means she needs professionals
that care and support her correctly. However, if Aisha is not helped to overcome her
challenge, it can lead to her having depression. This is because, if the career doesn’t
ask questions to the leaders about the type of care Aisha needs, there would be lack
of social support from the career to Aisha. If Aisha lacked social support, she then
would isolate herself and not have any social interaction and this could lead to her
developing depression. There are different strategies in order to help individuals with
different needs. One approach is education materials, for example leaflets which can
be put around a room or area to give people some information about what they are
promoting. A strength is that it is available for large amounts of people, for example if
the leaflets were placed in a hospital waiting room or GP waiting room. Leaflets help
to raise awareness on topics that many people are uneducated on. the poster might
get people thinking and they might go get checked out for their health, this is
because the leaflet or poster might help them acknowledge that they have a serious
health problem. Another strength is that it is quick and cheap. However, there are
some weaknesses to educational materials, for example the public might not need
them, if there were posters on walls about uncommon and rare illnesses/ symptoms
it is likely that it is wasted information as not many people will have it and it could
also cause panic. The poster and leaflets might also be placed where people can't
read them and also the information could be inaccurate. There might also be
communication barriers as the person may have medical conditions, they are
unaware, and the leaflet was trying to raise awareness of, but they cannot ask
anyone for advice on what to do. The education materials may help to minimise any
potential challenges as it will have information and it will also minimise the service
user’s awareness and knowledge challenge.

Clinical audits
To overcome this challenge, professionals could use speech recognition software,
this is used by people who are visually impaired or who have dyslexia to generate
messages without using a computer keyboard. This would benefit Billy as he is
visually impairment and it will minimise his challenge because this computer will help
him by sending messages. I used clinical audits for Billy because he is visual
impaired. However, if Billy is not helped to overcome his challenge, it can lead to lack
of confidence. This is because, if there isn’t the speech recognition software to help
him send messages, he won’t be able to text no one this would lead him to lack
confidence in himself. Another strategy is clinical audits, this is a process that has
been defined as a quality improvement process that seeks to improve patient care, a
strength of this is that it plays vital role in every healthcare organization as it
enhancing quality of care, further, it is a well-known fact that every patient has some
sort of expectation from the healthcare team or practitioners in relation with the
quality. Therefore, clinical audit provides direct benefit to the patients where they are
