According to Jabbar and Hussein (2017, p.102), strategic leadership will be a critical
concern should be considered for the success of an organization. John Quincy Adams quoted
that ‘If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you
are a leader’. This quote clearly addresses the potentials of strategic leaders’ vision to motivate
and encourage followers to participate willingly to pursue their ideas considering the productivity
and higher performance leading to achieve the organization objectives.
Leaders have different approaches based on their surrounding environment and circumstance.
Generally, strategic leaders’ organizational abilities (Davie, 2010, p.30-32) are as follow:
Translate strategy into action: Leaders are able to follow three-stage process of
Awakening, Envisioning and Re-architecting through various tools such as ‘strategy
maps’ and ‘Balance Scorecards’ to propose the adequate strategy.
People and Organization Alignment: Encourage commitment, share values and high-
quality communication
Strategic competency
Strategic-Oriented insight: capability to incorporate and include both internal and
external business environmental factors (Jabbar & Hussein, 2017, p.101) and cope with
process
Establish effective strategic challenging point: Davie (2010, p.33) called it as an
intervention or inflection point which refer to the key moment for strategic change in
organization. This is the time to develop the possible new vision and create new strategy
and step into a new direction.
Transformational leader most probably is considered to be the best of strategic
leadership style. Transformational leaders focus on inspiration, motivation, challenge, vision,
personal development and superior performance by their followers (Özer & Tınaztepe, 2014,
p.779). In this vein, I consider this leadership style as an effective leadership for business as
there is a strong positive relation between employees’ satisfaction, motivation and better
performance. This style inspired followers in positive changes while involving in the process by
helping members to excel their performance and be the best of themselves. Transformational
leaders make a clear, optimistic and attainable picture of future for their followers and
encourage them to raise their expectations and be more creative to achieve the objectives and
mission.
As far as what I learn during these three weeks, transformational leadership has the potential to
be the ideal leadership style as it can bring the great performance while emphasize on morale
and values. Although, the combination of different leadership style should be considered.
Understanding these leadership and their potential benefits and limitations will lead the
