I chose to create a multi-syllabus for Alberto, because I, as the teacher, think that he
requires a course that focuses primarily on both speaking and listening skills. Given the
fact that he has had eight years of coursebook grammar lessons, I chose to keep any
grammar-based lessons to a minimal. From the information that I gathered watching the
interview and reading the questionnaire, it seems that Alberto has difficulty with listening
for gist and extracting key information. He also lacks the confidence to respond with his
Spanish accent fearing that his pronunciation would be incorrect. His reading and writing
abilities are also good but there is always room for improvement so I gave him some
reading and writing tasks in the first five hours to evaluate his ability so that I could adapt
the syllabus if necessary

After watching the interview video and reading the questionnaire answers, I discovered
that Alberto has a lot of interests that can be used to create materials with. Because he
likes films, football, and travel, I thought that using these topics in the beginning of the
skill lessons would be a good way to get Alberto relaxed and comfortable enough for the
more work-related lessons. He is well motivated and seems to have good reasons to
