Reaction to Hills Like White Elephants
The passage describes a man and a woman consuming beer and anise liqueur while waiting at a Spain train station. The guy attempts to lure the woman into having an abortion, but the woman is ambivalent. The suspense of the plot emerges out of their terse, barbed conversation. The passage of is a rich tale that it provides further every time you read. Seeing the difference between the dusty, dry side of the valley and the greener "grain fields." You might mirror the symbolism of the train tracks or the absinthe. You might ask whether the woman will go through the termination, whether they will stay together, and eventually whet it. The passage exposed abortion, one of our society's epidemics. This plot centers around a male and a woman arguing over what to do. The train station symbolizes the two opposite routes and is the setting of the story. One direction is somewhat characterized as existence, whereas the other side is represented as dry and lifeless. Their claim was not evident at all, but it was somehow discovered later on in the dispute. One hand is seeking termination while the other is encouraging the infant to survive. The guy and the woman have a rough time with their choices. I say the plot is open-ended, which is what I enjoy about the story. It helped us consider and evaluate on our own how the action concludes with the story's last lines or paragraph. To be rational and analytical, this is a very successful exercise for us.
