Use the checklist from unit 10 ('Evaluating course book material') to write a general
evaluation of the book - you won't be able to comment on all items as you only have one
unit and the contents, but say as much as you can.
This must be presented as a coherent essay, not just a list.
Then say whether you personally would like to use the book with an advanced class and
why or why not - this is just your opinion, so there is not a right or a wrong response to
this part. You do not need to refer to the class described for part 2 of this assignment.

The course book material is appropriate and suitable for an advanced level class. This is
due to the nature, content, and design of the course book material. The content and
design of activities of the course material begin off easy and become more challenging as
students work through it. Each section and activity bridges off from the previous activity or
section, allowing students to mould their knowledge. The course book material is
appropriate for advanced students due to the dynamic range of activities, which comprises
of both group and independent work. This allows students to test their own knowledge
and pool knowledge from other students in group work, which promotes cooperative
learning. After the end of each section, the book material has included tasks for students to
complete. The significance of these tasks are to challenge and motivate the advanced
students. These tasks are designed to test different skills at once, where learners are
examined using reading, listening, writing, and speaking skills. This is thus an appropriate
book to use with an advanced class of students.
The design and content of the activities of the book focus on both individual work and
group work. The individual work encourage advanced students to self-examine and form
their own understandings which is key in teaching advanced students. Some of these
individual activities include answering questions based off an audio. The course book
material includes multiple group activities throughout the book. Personally, there are too
many group activities in the book where it is easier for students to rely on their classmates
for answers, rather than advanced students being challenged individually. However, in
saying that, the group activities are challenging and promote students to build
collaborative skills that are needed. The majority of the group activities incorporate
discussion skills which stimulate listening and speaking skills. This being very appropriate
for advanced students.
The materials used in the course material book vary which is relevant for advanced
students because it promotes exposure to different sources and platforms of information.
The different platforms of information include mostly audio sources such as the radio news
