ONBOARD PASSENGER OPERATIONS
P3 Explain how on-board procedures and services
are coordinated.
In this task I will talk about cabin crew procedures and services they
provide to on-board passengers and how they are coordinated
during different stages of the flight. A minimum flight crew of two
pilots, consisting of a Captain and a co-pilot, is required. One
member of the cabin crew will be nominated for the role of Senior
Cabin Crew Member. The cabin crew's responsibilities include
preparing the aircraft and doing pre-flight safety and security
inspections. The number of cabin crew on a plane will range from 14
to 16. The most crew members are assigned to ultra-long-haul
planes, where the flight attendants alternate taking their rest time.
The crew of an A330 usually consists of 12 to 14 people. Each cabin
crew is then assigned tasks to be carried out in flights procedures
which is discussed in pre-flight briefing where each needs to work in
coordinated manner during the whole journey. The chain of
command system is intended to allow contact between the flight
crew and the cabin crew to flow freely. It is critical to recognise that
successful interaction and communication are critical to the
aircraft's protection.

 Pre-Departure-

During flight briefing the most senior crew member will pick a role and
will continue to do so until all members of the crew have been
assigned a task. Procedures include the pre-flight briefing, which
includes the senior cabin crew allocating the roles and tasks to fellow
crew members like: headcount, clicker count, meeting and greeting,
distributions of services and procedures and briefing them with the
types of passengers on board and their requirements. They learn more
about the trip, such as the departure and arrival times, as well as the
destination, flight number, and aircraft registration. Important details
to recall include the passenger load, any maintenance problems, and
special meals (vegetarian, halal, etc.). The passenger load, any
maintenance problems, special meals (e.g., vegetarian, halal, diabetic,

etc.) and passengers who need help like passengers with reduced
mobility or need a wheelchair will be included as important information
to note. The flight's expectations, as well as team standards and any
day's objectives, will be addressed.

Before taking off cabin crew will perform security checks like checking
the galley, the cabinets above passengers if they are locked and
secure, check safety equipment crew seats, checking lavatories and
ensuring that tray tables and seat are upright and in locked position.

Cabin crew members have specific responsibilities that begin before
the first passenger boards and continue throughout the flight. This
include inspecting safety equipment and conducting security checks,
as well as ensuring that the aircraft is clean and organized, that
material in seat pockets is up to date and that all food, beverages, and
supplies are on board. The entire crew gathers before boarding, the
captain checks the flight schedule and any safety issues, and the lead
attendant assigns each attendant to a specific section of the aircraft.
Before the plane takes off, the attendants must:

 Greet passengers and direct them to their seats.
 Help passengers stow their carry-on luggage.
 Make sure passengers near the emergency exits are prepared to
help out in an emergency.
 Run over safety procedures.
 Check every seat to make sure all passengers are buckled-in and
that their seats are in the right position.
 Lock the doors and arm them so that the emergency slides will
inflate if they are opened.
 Perform crosschecks before departing the aircraft in simple
terms, it ensures the door is able to be used in the event of an
emergency evacuation. The slide raft is attached to a girt bar on
the floor of the doorway when the door is armed, and the door
open assist is activated. If you open the door in this mode, it will
quickly push open, and the slide raft will be deployed. It takes
about six seconds to inflate. The pilot will ask the crew to disarm
doors after landing, indicating that the emergency slide has been
deactivated.
