Recruitment and Selection Process
Explain how a large business recruits and selects giving reasons for their processes.

This assignment I'm going to be explaining how a large business such as Apple recruits and its reasons
for their type of process.
1Apple is an American multinational technology company which was first founded on the 1st of April
1976 by Steve jobs and Wonzunak Ronald Wayne. Apple designs and sells electronics, computer
software and online services. Apple sell goods and provide services such as iCloud, Apple pay and
iTunes. In 2020 Apple has won many awards such as 2Best Company for Diversity 2020, Best CEO 2020,
Best Company Culture 2020, Best Company Perks & Benefits, Best Company Compensation, Best
Company Happiness, Best Professional Development 2020, Best Leadership Teams 2020 and Best CEOs
for Diversity 2020.
3Apple operates over 500 retail stores across 25 countries and regions. 4Apples total net sales amounted
to 274.52 billion U.S dollars in their 2020 financial year. 5Apple also has 147,000 employees in 2020.

There are many reasons as to why Apple would want to employ and recruit a member of staff such as:

Expansion

Apple may want to recruit for the expansion of the business. Apple can expand by increasing their
employee size. By expanding the business by recruiting more employees can be very beneficial as it will
increase Apple's status and reputation which will make it very easy to launch new products.

Gain someone new who can provide new expertise and skills

Apple may also want to recruit to gain some who can bring new expertise and skills to the business.
Bringing new types of people with variety of skills can also be beneficial because it can create an
engaged and motivated workforce and also bring in a higher range of innovative ideas.

Replace new staff who left

Apple could employ to also replace those employees that have left. As times goes on and the business
grows there will be employees coming in and out of the company. Missing staff could cause a lot of
problems and misunderstandings which could lead to the downfall of the company.

To cope with an unexpected or anticipated increase in workload

Lastly, Apple may also want to employ and recruit employees to cope when it comes top unexpected
high workloads. Especially during seasonal holidays such as Christmas and New year's it gets more busy.
Having resilient and hardworking employees helps keep things more under control and on track. It's also
beneficial because having the perfect variety of employees will help Apple growth.

Apples Recruitment Process

• Step 1: Identify the vacancy

Apple will notice that vacancies are becoming more available in the business which could be due to
employees retiring or simply just finding a new job.

, • Step 2: Carry out Job analysis

Apple will then carry out a job analysis which is 6the process of gathering and analyzing information
about the content and the human requirements of jobs. This process is used to determine placement of
jobs.

• Step 3: Create a job description

Apple will then create the job desprciption.7A job description is a document that states the tasks and
responsibilities of the job. It contains information on things such as Duties, Pay, Location, Hours and
Conditions of work.

• Step 4: Create a person specification

Apple will create a person specification. 8The person specification is a description of the qualifications,
skills, experience, knowledge and other attributes (selection criteria) which a candidate must possess to
perform the job duties.

• Step 5: Advertise the Job

Apple will then be able to finally advertise the vacancy. Apple can advertise these vacancies through third
party online sites such as Indeed and Glassdoor and even recruitment agencies. They can also advertise
through job centers and local press.

• Step 6: Shortlisting

Through the long list of applicants Apple will then need to select candidates through a shortlisting.
9Shortlisting is the process of identifying the candidates from your applicant pool who best meet the

required and desired criteria for the business and who you want to move forward onto the next step of
your recruitment process.

• Step 7: Arrange interviews

As the candidates has reduced in size Apple can then contact those chosen for an interview and plan
which date would be best for them. Apple normally conduct up to 4 interviews with each candidate.

• Step 8: Conduct interviews and decision making

During the interview Apple will communicate with the candidates the relevant information of the job
and clarify any queries they may have about the position or organization.

And finally, Apple can make the decision by evaluating the data gathered at the interview to select the
preferred candidate.
