Verslag Potentiometrische titratie


1) Principe

Bij een potentiometrische titratie wordt de verandering in gemeten spanning (wordt
afgelezen als pH-verandering) gevolgd in functie van het volume toegevoegd reagens.
Hieruit kan het equivalentiepunt (EP) bepaald worden. Het equivalentiepunt is dat punt
waar chemisch equivalente hoeveelheden van de te bepalen component en van het titreer
reagens bij elkaar werden gevoegd.

2) Reacties


Een mengsel van NaOH en Na2CO3. De reactie tussen HCl en Na2CO3 neemt plaats in 2
fasen:

HCl + Na2CO3 → NaHCO3 + H2O (1)

HCl + NaHCO3 → NaCl + CO2 + H2O (2)

Terwijl dat tussen HCl en NaOH in slechts één stap wordt voltooid:

HCl + NaOH → NaCl + H2O (3)

Het oplossings mengsel van reactie (1) op het equivalentiepunt is alkalisch, dat van reactie
(2) is zuur en dat van reactie (3) is neutraal. De hele titratie zou dus drie onderbrekingen in
de pH-curve moeten hebben, die overeenkomen met de bovengenoemde drie fasen.
Reacties (1) en (3) kunnen worden aangegeven door fenolftaleïne en die van reactie (2)
kunnen worden aangegeven door methyloranje.
