PSY 480 Case Study of Hector with OCD
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a form of Psychotherapy which is mainly used in treating cases such as depression, eating disorders, and PTSD but the rationale for using this type of intervention, is the specific form of behavior therapy that has been proven to work well with those who suffer from OCD (Behavior Therapy, 2015). This particular form of behavior therapy is known as exposure and response prevention (ERP) (Behavior Therapy, 2015). These two techniques exposure and response work hand in hand, the exposure is the feared situations the individual is suffering with and the prevention of any rituals helps physically and mentally maximize response to treatment. In our case study, Hector is suffering from many other issues in his life due to his OCD rituals pertaining to eating, socialization, and mental suffering. Hector would be seen by his clinician and would need to be in agreeance to tolerate not performing an OCD ritual. Hector would need to be aware of the different obsessions and compulsions he may be having and will need to keep track throughout the therapy (Behavior Therapy, 2015). Each week Hector and his clinician will focus in on one or two of his compulsions. After a week of abstaining from performing a ritual, the anxiety will slowly go down and after a month the associated obsession can become less frequent and intense
