WGU-C304 Task 1/WGU-C304 Task 1. A. Nursing theory A nursing theory that has influenced my values and goals is the needs theory developed by Virginia Henderson 1966. Her needs theory focused on helping fill the gap between deficit and full functioning by supporting the patient either physiologically, spiritually, psychologically, and/or sociologically in 14 different components (Ahtisham, 2015). Nurses apply the needs theory to their everyday work to implement excellent nursing practice. As nurses we make sure the 14 components described by Virginia Henderson are addressed every day. Every time we round we make sure they are breathing, drinking adequately and eating their food. With each daily assessment we make sure they are voiding and passing bowels without difficulty, sleeping well, warm and comfortable with their environment, and able to move and change positions.
