INTERNET VS. THE WEB
INTERNET
● A collection of physical networks, interconnecting different
computers/devices around the world.
● Makes use of communication channels such as wires and signals
● There is no central point of control, computers communicate via via
other computers and routers in the network
IP ADDRESSES
● All devices on the internet are referred to using an IP address
● Original IP addresses were called IPv4 as they had 4 parts
● Now we use IPv6
● IP address is usually associated with a domain name
WORLD WIDE WEB
● A system of interconnected documents or multimedia resources which may
be accessed via the internet
● Intangible
SIR TIM BURNERS LEE
● Invented the WWW in 1989
● Also came up with HTML, URI (Uniform Resource Identifier) and HTTP
● He created the first ever webpage at CERN and put it online on August
6th 1991
● Founded the W3C (WWW Consortium)
