My first video chosen is Case #163, developing Drug Awareness & Resistance Skills 6th
grade.
The second video I chose is Case #586, Building classroom community through the study of
Chinese Art and Culture 2nd grade.
The third video I chose was Case 1283, Analyzing American Literature through a Fishbowl
Discussion 11th grade.

1. Cultural Needs: In the video Case # 1283, the class of mainly white native English
speakers in Eleventh-grade class is reading The Great Gatsby”. The students have a
cultural understanding of the content in contemporary society and thoughts on the
“American Dream.”
Social Needs: In the video Case # 586, the second-grade teacher expresses that the
students enjoy working in stations as groups. This is evident by the excitement about the
topics researched.
Emotional Needs: In the video Case # 163, the class of 6th graders performed an activity
to warm up their bodies and minds before the lesson. This helped the students
emotionally to ensure that they were focused on learning.
2. a.
My first suggestion from Case #586 would be to limit the number of stations and
information discussed in one sitting.
b.
My second suggestion from Case # 1283 would be to ask more leading questions on the
“American Dream.” Would this lifestyle be obtainable to all persons in America?
Another question I would ask would be, “Do you feel there is any feeling of entitlement
in this novel?”

One strategy I would use in my classroom is from Case #1283. If I were to teach a class
of older students at the High School level, I would use the Fishbowl method to discuss a
novel that the course is reading for Language Arts.
a. All the students were able to discuss the novel orderly. The students were also able to
express their thought and opinions with this method of questioning their peers.
The second strategy I would use in my classroom is from Case#163. The teacher posted
around the room large “Post-it” note sheets. The students wrote down ideas under each
heading in a health lesson. I would do this activity in a Health class to brainstorm all the
effects of smoking.
a. This engaged each student in actively participating in class discussion. The students
were able to gather many different ideas with the help of their classmates.
