Faculty Information
Pleased to meet you, I am Dr. Catherine
Onuoha. Although I was raised in
Connecticut, my home is now made in
sunny Florida. I have nearly 20 years of
experience in Health Care / Clinical
education. I became a Pharmacist by virtue
of my first professional degree, and I later
resumed schooling at the Medical College of
Virginia (MCV). While at MCV, I earned my
doctorate in the combined disciplines of
Pharmacology and Toxicology. My career
has led me to teach within both Public and
Private Universities. It has been my
privilege, in several academic settings, to
train Doctors, Nurses, and Pharmacists. The
patient care aspect of my professorship is
practiced within a Complementary &
Alternative Medicine Clinic.

Pathophysiology and Advanced
Pharmacology. My aim as the Professor for
Advanced Pathohysiology students is to
nurture each learner’s understanding of
disease processes. Our lectures/ lessons
will spotlight and explain how many disease
processes unfold. The logical sequel
process will be to learn how prescription
drugs or alternate therapeutic intervention(s)
may *interrupt* or forestall such disease
processes. Throughout this edification of our
minds, and while we are working to unravel
and truly understand both illness and
therapeutics, I will continually remind
students to view the patient through an
‘integrated systems’ lens (respiratory,
circulatory, endocrine, nervous systems). I
believe that the physiological mechanisms
of disease ontogenesis evolve as a
“process” . In like fashion, advantageous /
disadvantageous drug effects unfold as a
“process” . In Advanced Pharmacology, I
coach students to understand such
processes, rather than to memorize drug
names and categories.
As our work in this virtual classroom
progresses, we shall draw inferences about
disease progression and will infer the
medicinal effects after learning key
DrugReceptor theories. All the while we will
recognize, of course, that a pharmacokinetic
“process” is prerequisite to any drug’s
capacity for action in the targeted tissue.. I

contend good clinicians rotate back and
forth between the macro view of their patient
(considers whole body), and the micro view
(considers a disease epicenters). Hence, I
routinely teach new practitioners to view
medicine as both an art, and a science.
On a personal note, I am passionate about
music and art. I almost always choose the
ocean for my vacations. To contrast with
this, I enjoy silent meditation, reading and
writing. I am a Christian woman and my
proudest accomplishment has been to raise
5 awesome children.
