NR 509 -Sophia Hadad Pediatric GAS Pharyngitis: Shadow HealthSophiaHadad Pediatric GAS Pharyngitis Shadow Health Shadow Health: GAS Pharyngitis Synopsis Sophia Haddad (S.H.) is a 5-year-old presenting with a moderate headache, sore throat, throat swelling, throat exudate, a generalized rash on chest, and moderate pain when talking or swallowing. Many questions were asked to both S.H. and her guardian, Omar. Omar was contacted by S.H. school nurse because she had a fever of 102. Omar reported that S.H. has a history of otitis media as a child, which resulted in a tympanostomy tube insertion at the age of 2. Strep throat around S.H. school was discussed and that several classmates have it. S.H. vital signs were within normal limits. Sophia’s father reported that medicine compliance has been an issue in the past. He stated that she doesn’t like to take medicine but is willing to try liquid medication. S.H. stated that she takes gummy vitamins in the morning and drinks water. I encouraged Sophia and Omar to stay hydrated and the importance of it and also educated on how to take care of Sophia’s symptoms. I encourage Omar to bring S.H. back in if her symptoms did not improve.
