1. How can eating a high-salt diet increase blood pressure?
When consuming a high salt diet it may cause fluid retention. The increase of pressure exerted
by blood against blood vessel walls is what occurs.
2. Research the following disorders and write a definition for each:
a. Acidemia: Acidemia is the increase of hydrogen ion concentration of the blood resulting
in a decrease in Ph.
b. Alkalemia: Alkalemia is a decrease in the hydrogen ion concentration in the body in
which results in increase in Ph.
c. Acidosis: Is an extremely low pH in the bodys fluid or tissues.
d. Alkalosis: Is an extremely high pH in the body fluids and tissues.
3. Name three ways the body regulates the pH of blood.
One way is the kidneys by urination. The second is through chemical buffer systems. The last is
the lungs releasing waste by exhaling the form of carbon dioxide.
