SUS1501 Assignment 2 (COMPLETE ANSWERS) Semester 2 2026 (232431)- DUE 14 August 2026; 100% TRUSTED Complete, trusted solutions and explanations. For assistance, Whats-App 0.8.1..2.7.8..3.3.7.2... Ensure your success with us...... 1. BACKGROUND FACTS In assignment 1, one of the questions was: “In January 2026 Patrice Motsepe's net worth was estimated to be US$ 4.2 billion." My personal opinion on this statement is most closely described by: a. Good for him – he is brilliant and worked hard to earn this. b. The only problem I have with this is that it wasn’t me with US$ 4.2 billion! c. No problem with this. I'm sure Motsepe gives huge amounts to charities. d. I think that it is morally wrong for anyone to have that much money. e. I think that active steps should be taken to correct such immoral wealth. This is a huge amount of money – over R 70 billion. Just putting this in a bank account at 5% interest would yield R 3.5 billion rand income every year! R 3.5 billion!! Every year!! Do you remember which option you chose? In this assignment we are going to zoom in on option “a” specifically: “Good for him – he worked hard to earn this”. What this option is basically saying is, that the wealth of billionaires like Motsepe are completely reasonable and justifiable? What we want you to do in this assignment is to examine this option (i.e. someone, perhaps even you, having US$ 4.2 billion) from the perspective of Kant’s formula of universal law version of the categorical imperative. 2. EVALUATE USING KANT'S CATEGORICAL IMPERATIVE (We've done the first two stages for you) 1. State your proposed act as a maxim: "Patrice Motsepe will accumulate US$ 4.2 billion (A) over the course of his life (C) in order to get really, really rich (E)." 2. Restate this maxim as a universal law: "All people (8.1 billion of them) will accumulate US$ 4.2 billion over the course of their life in order to get really, really rich." 3. Is the maxim above conceivable in a world ruled by the universal law; COMPULSORY Answer here IN YOUR OWN WORDS You may NOT use AI in any way to write or edit what you submit here. If you do you will be heavily penalized. OPTIONAL – If you want to use AI to language edit what you wrote above you may do so here. 4. Would you rationally act on the maxim above in such a world. COMPULSORY Answer here IN YOUR OWN WORDS You may NOT use AI in any way to write or edit what you submit here. If you do you will be heavily penalized. OPTIONAL – If you want to use AI to language edit what you wrote above you may do so here. 3. FORM AN OPINION On the basis of your analysis above, answer the following questions: 1. What would Kant probably have said about Motsepe’s wealth? COMPULSORY Answer here IN YOUR OWN WORDS You may NOT use AI in any way to write or edit what you submit here. If you do you will be heavily penalized. OPTIONAL – If you want to use AI to language edit what you wrote above you may do so here. 2. Why do you think this? You MUST state your premises (reasons) explicitly as we taught you in the section on arguments (A DARN GOOD ARGUMENT - INFORMAL LOGIC). If you do not do this, you will not pass this assignment. COMPULSORY - minimum of 200 words Answer here IN YOUR OWN WORDS You may NOT use AI in any way to write or edit what you submit here. If you do you will be heavily penalized. OPTIONAL – If you want to use AI to language edit what you wrote above you may do so here. 3. What do you think about Patrice Motsepe’s wealth? COMPULSORY Answer here IN YOUR OWN WORDS You may NOT use AI in any way to write or edit what you submit here. If you do you will be heavily penalized. OPTIONAL – If you want to use AI to language edit what you wrote above you may do so here. 4. Why do you think this? COMPULSORY - minimum of 200 words Answer here IN YOUR OWN WORDS You may NOT use AI in any way to write or edit what you submit here. If you do you will be heavily penalized. OPTIONAL – If you want to use AI to language edit what you wrote above you may do so here.
