●● Aspirin
Nonsteroidal Antiinfammatories (NSAIDs)
BBW and DO NOT CHEW
Answer: +MOA: produces analgesia and reduces infammation and fever
by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins. It also decreases platelet
aggregation.
+TE: mild pain and fever. Once daily used to reduce risk of heart attack
and stroke.
+NC: 12+. GI bleed if longer than needed, combination, history of
stomach ulcers or bleeding problems, blood thinning ot steroid drug,
60+, chronic drinker. with H2O and sit uprights for 15-30mins.can be
taken with food.
+PT: avoid alcohol. report tinnitus, unusual bleeding, or fever lasting
greater than 3 days.
+SE: GI upset, GI bleed, and tinnitus, allergic reaction (hives, facial
swelling, shock, asthma (wheezing).
+BBW: Children or teenagers should not take aspirin to treat chickenpox
or fu-like symptoms because of the risk of Reye's Syndrome.

Nonopioid analgesic NSAID Antipyretic

Answer: +MOA: inhibits prostaglandin synthesis.
+TE: treat mild to moderate pain and fever, innfammatory disorders
including rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, and pain associated
with dysmenorrhea.
+NC: 6month old+, do not use last 3 months of pregnancy.
+PT: H2O and remain upright foe 30 mins. avoid alcohol. no longer than
10 days.
+SE: GI bleed (60+, stomach ulders or bleeding problems, takes blood
thinning or steroid drugs, other NSAIDs), constipation, dyspepsia,
nausea, vomiting, Steven-Johnson syndrome, and renal failure,
headache,. allergy (hives, facial swelling, asthma (wheezing), shock,
skin reddening, rash, blisters)
+HEART ATTACK AND STORKE WARNNG; fetal.
+BBW: contraindicated for the treatment of perioperative pain after
coronary artery bypass graft


●● Ketorolac
NSAID
Answer: +MOA: inhibits prostaglandin synthesis.
+TE: indicated for the short-term (up to 5 days in adults) management of
moderate to severe acute pain that requires analgesia at the opioid level

, +NC: dose should be reduced for 65+. monitor BUN, creratine, CBC,

+PT: avoid alcohol, or other aspirin containing products.
+SE: drowsiness, headache, GI bleed, abnormal taste, dyspepsia, nausea,
Steven-Johnson syndrome, edema, and renal failure.
+GI RISK: IV form can cause peptic ulcers, gastrointestinal bleeding,
and/or perforation of the stomach or intestines, which can be fatal.
contraindicated in patients with active peptic ulcer disease, recent
gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation
+CARDIO THROMBOITIC RISK: increase risk myocardial infarction
and stroke, which can be fatal. contraindicated recently received
coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery
+RENAL RISK: renal failure due to volume depletion
+ RISK OF BLEEDING: inhibits platelet function. CONT:
cerebrovascular bleeding, hemorrhagic diathesis, incomplete hemostasis,
and a high risk of bleeding, prophylactic analgesic before any major
surgery
+HYPERSENSITIVITY REACTION: ranging from bronchospasm to
anaphylactic shock have occurred and appropriate counteractive
measures must be available when administering the frst dose of
ketorolac
