A. Explain how ethical standards differ from legal
requirements.
Ethical standards are a way to navigate the
bridge between the laws and the unknown. Legal
requirements are in place to make sure that
clients and professionals remain safe, fair, and
compliant while receiving services and practicing
duties. Ethical standards differ from legal
requirements in multiple ways. Ethics, in general,
can be perceived differently due to background,
beliefs, and experiences. That is why legal
requirements are implemented so that ethical
concerns can be held to legal standards.
Something can be legal and frowned upon
ethically. Ethics are not one size fits all; that’s
why ethical standards and legal requirements
exist in order to keep a balance between behavior.
So, they differ by ethical standards being
“morally” and behaviorally subjective. While
legal requirements are a map to acceptable
conduct to navigate the ethical dilemmas.

facilitate a positive outcome.
An ethical standard that affects collaborative
decision-making would be transparency and
honesty. These ethical standards impact
collaborative decision-making to facilitate a
positive outcome by building trust, making
informed, non-biased decisions, and adhering
to ethical guidelines and laws. Giving the client
well-rounded, clear, and concise information to
make a collaborative decision in their best
interest. (Culture Partners, 2024)
2. Discuss a legal requirement that affects
collaborative decision-making for a client to
facilitate a positive outcome.
A legal requirement that would facilitate a
positive client outcome would be to make
sure the establishment and workers at the
place they are visiting for treatment are
accredited and have proper rules and
regulations in place to keep both the client
and professional safe. (Western Governors
University, 2020).

dilemma that may arise in the situation
presented in the scenario.
An ethical principle that may need to be used
is non-maleficence due to concerns of child
neglect. Doing the least harm possible means
having to see the picture from all sides and
make an informed decision, even if that
means having to go against autonomy or
beneficence for the greater good of the
children and Angela (Western Governors
University, 2020). Given the information in
the scenario, including things like the
children’s delay in growth, not enough food,
and not having medical insurance, are
concerns that would make me as a health and
human service employee, make an informed
and as much as possible collaborative
decision to use this ethical principle and call
in to child and family services and other
agencies for help.

would use all possible resources and look at this
scenario from a angles and views, while
