exam(discussion questions)Advanced pathophysiology(Nur-641 E)
Discussion question 1/1 Find an article on a genetic disorder and summarize in two or three paragraphs the genetic component causing the disorder and any multifactorial inheritance components that may contribute to the disorder. Discuss the usual age of disease onset and if the sex-specific threshold model fits the disorder. What education could you present to high-risk patients to reduce the risk of disease onset if a multifactorial component exists? Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is a red blood cell disorder that runs in families and is a life long disease. Normal red blood cells are round in shape, allowing them to move easily through blood vessels and carry oxygen to various parts of the body, including our organs. In SCD, the red blood cell is shaped like a c or a farm sickle (SCD, 2015). "Sickled erythrocytes are stiff and cannot change shape as easily as normal cells when they pass through the micro circulation" (McCance et al, p. 1065, para 1, 2013).
