Tell me about Holden's birth history and current health and
development.
I had a normal pregnancy with Holden. Um, he met all his
milestones on time. His first word was at about 10 months. Um, he
would chase after our cat um Haley, he would say. About until age
2, then I realized that. [Holden says dog's name.] She's our dog.
Um, I realized um his intelligibility um wasn't there. He had kind of
a limited repertoire of sounds. He was using mostly /p/, /t/ and /d/.
But other than that um there wasn't a lot. But language wise, you
know vocabulary's always been good. Um sentence structure he's
always done well with.

Does Holden have a history of hearing difficulties or ear infections?
Oh, no ear infections, no family history.
8 minutes 50 seconds
Describe Holden's speech and the progress you have seen.
Um, probably around age 2. Um, I was probably the only who that
was really able to understand him. And once he was combining
words, um it was more difficult to really um determine what he
wanted as his vocabulary grew beyond people's names and you
know those common nouns. And he gets speech therapy at school
for 30 minutes a week.
9 minutes 10 seconds
What challenges have you faced with Holden? Describe any
strategies you have tried.
Mom- I would say challenges are maybe attention, finding a time
when they're motivated, and they're wanting to work with you. Um
and then not pushing them um you know if they're not willing to,
finding a different time of day or different activity um if one thing
doesn't work um then find something else that works. Um, we do a
lot of books at home so at night time you know I'll get him to try
and label things um that had his target sound in them. You know
I'll play kind of dumb and I'll use some of his target sounds the way
that he would and try to get him to correct me. SLP-That's a good
way to do it, yea. Mom- Um, and just in play or trying to get him to
request things with his target sound, you know getting him to
request a car and get a good /k/ sound or a spoon to get the s
blend in there.
