, How to Use This Book
Most AP Chem students don't lose points because they forgot the facts.
They lose because they can't translate, justify, and set up calculations fast enough
under exam pressure.
This book is built around fixing exactly that.

This guide is engineered for one job: get you to a 5 on the May 5, 2026 AP Chemistry exam in the time you
actually have. The 9 units are not equal. Units 3, 7, 8, and 9 carry roughly half the exam, so they get the most
pages. Everything is built around three repeating tools: misconception-first openers ("Where Students Get
Stuck"), scorer-friendly language ("Do This, Not This"), and one-page visual summaries ("Cram Cards").

Pick the timeline that matches your reality.

Timeline Days 1–X Final 48 Hours

2-Week Plan Days 1–2: Part 0 (Core Skills Reboot). Days 3–5: Unit 3 + Unit 8. Day 14: Last-Night
(Strongest) Days 6–7: Unit 7 + Unit 9. Days 8–10: Units 1, 2, 4, 5, 6. Days Review Protocol + Cram
11–12: Part 3 (MCQ + FRQ Strategy). Day 13: Take a full Cards only. Sleep 8 hours.
released exam under time.

1-Week Plan Day 1: Part 0 + Equation Sheet Decoded. Day 2: Unit 3. Day 3: Day 7: Cram Cards, Must-
(Realistic) Unit 8. Day 4: Units 7 + 9. Day 5: Units 1, 2, 4. Day 6: Units 5, 6 Memorize List, one timed
+ FRQ Strategy. FRQ set.

48-Hour Plan Hour 1–3: Part 0. Hour 4–8: Unit 3 + Unit 8 Cram Cards + Final 12 hours: Last-Night
(Triage) worked examples. Hour 9–12: Unit 7 + Unit 9 Cram Cards. Hour Review Protocol, Must-
13–16: FRQ Strategy + Particulate Playbook. Hour 17–20: Units Memorize List, sleep.
1, 2, 4, 5, 6 Cram Cards only.

Score 5 Tip — Read the misconception boxes first
Every unit opens with "Where Students Get Stuck." If you only have minutes per unit, read those boxes and the Cram
Card. They are where points are actually thrown away.

How to read the icons and badges
• Where Students Get Stuck (orange): the 2–3 most common misconceptions for that topic. Read these BEFORE the
content.
• Do This, Not This (green/red): full-credit response language vs. zero-point language from real scoring patterns.
• Cram Card (gold): one-page visual summary. Use these in the final 48 hours.
• Common Mistake (red): a specific error AP readers flag every year.

3

, • Score 5 Tip (navy): a strategy that separates 4s from 5s.
• New for 2025–26 (green badge): content added or moved by the 2024–25 CED update. The 2026 exam is the first exam
this content appears on at full weight.

One rule above all others
If you run out of time, cut practice questions before you cut the diagrams. The diagrams in this book are what
your brain will recall under exam pressure. The questions are practice; the visuals are scaffolding.

Exam Format Quick Reference
Exam Date: Tuesday, May 5, 2026, 8:00 AM Local Time
Total Length: 3 hours 15 minutes
Format: Hybrid digital — MCQ in the Bluebook app, FRQ handwritten in a paper booklet

Section Breakdown

Section Format Questions Time Weight

I — Multiple Choice Digital (Bluebook) 60 MCQs, 4 choices each 90 min 50%

II — Free Response Handwritten (paper) 3 long FRQs (10 pts each) 105 min 50%
4 short FRQs (4 pts each)

What You Get
• Periodic Table — provided
• Equations & Constants Sheet — provided (updated 2025: now includes Coulomb's Law, Kw = Ka × Kb , and
pKw = pKa + pKb )
• Calculator — scientific or graphing, allowed on BOTH sections. The Desmos scientific/graphing calculator is also built
into Bluebook.

What You Do NOT Get
• Strong acid / strong base lists (memorize these)
• Solubility rules
• Polyatomic ion names and formulas
• Color of common indicators or precipitates
• The values of Ka , Ksp , etc. unless given in the question

Score 5 Tip — The 50/50 mental model
MCQ and FRQ are weighted equally. A student who is good at MCQ but blanks on FRQ scores the same as a student
who is the opposite. For many students — especially those already comfortable with the core content — the fastest
path to a 5 is sharpening FRQ language and rubric-targeted reasoning, not piling on more content.
