Brief Patient Profile
• Alicia Smiley is a 13-year-old female student who presents with her
mother for evaluation of persistent itchy skin. She reports a two-week
history of itching associated with dry, red patches affecting the inside of
her elbows, behind her knees, neck, and wrists. The itching is worse at
night and has begun to interfere with her sleep, school concentration,
and daily activities. She has a history of childhood eczema and a family
history of eczema and seasonal allergies, making an atopic skin condition
the most likely because of her symptoms.
