Have you ever wondered how Sherlock Holmes solves cases so effortlessly? Or how he
uncovers mysteries from clues that are invisible to the naked eye? These are exactly the
reasons why I, and many other young people, enjoy and value the series Sherlock so much.
The series follows the famous detective Sherlock Holmes, who is renowned for his deductive
and observational skills, and Dr. Watson, a former army doctor who slowly becomes Holmes’s
closest friend. The television series Sherlock Holmes, based on the stories by Sir Arthur
Conan Doyle, was aired from 2010 to 2017. Together, the two characters solve difficult and
dangerous criminal cases in the city of London. Benedict Cumberbatch, whom you may
recognise as Doctor Strange from the Marvel films, plays Sherlock Holmes, while Martin
Freeman, known for his appearance as Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit films, plays Dr. Watson.
Sherlock Holmes and his mysteries and crimes are still pretty popular nowadays, even among
young people. As you watch the series, you begin to understand why it became a global
phenomenon. Although it was filmed eight years ago, the show still feels modern. The
dialogue between the characters is often smart, sarcastic and humorous, particularly due to
Sherlock's arrogance. The entire series is filled with mysteries and action, and relatable
themes such as emotions, friendships, and fitting into society. Furthermore, the popularity of
the series has been further increased by memes and online fan groups. Without social media
and the internet, Sherlock would not be as popular as it is today. Even though Sir Arthur
Conan Doyle died a long time ago, his books endure and shape the way we perceive
detectives and Sherlock Holmes today. These are the reasons why the series is still enjoyed
by many young people today.
Despite its success, there is potential to make the series an even bigger media sensation. For
example, Sherlock's childhood and Watson's past are only mentioned briefly in the series. A
special episode showing their pasts could give the audience deeper insight into both
characters. Additionally, casting a woman in one of the lead roles would appeal to both
sexes, even though this would not be historically accurate. Even the best and most successful
films and series have minor flaws that could be improved.
In conclusion, the series Sherlock Holmes is a good adaptation of the books, that intrigues
young audiences and wannabe detectives alike. However, small changes could have been
made to attract a larger audience.
