Course introduction – BLM
General information
Melanoma = skin cancer, one of the most dangerous cancer.
To prevent cancer, you must know how the cells normally work/how healthy cells work. We will use
cell culture to investigate this instead of C. elegans.
Cancer development
Hallmarks of cancer
BLM cells = melanoma cells
o Activating invasion & metastasis is investigated in these cells, because you can not
investigate all the hallmarks of cancer at once.
Cell culture
BLM cells = invasive melanoma cell line.
The arrows show extensions which show that the cells are moving/migrating.

More ALCAM = more invasive and dangerous. The expression is investigated.
Project proposal is the presentation with your partner from practical. It is your own research/results
and part of it is a proposal for new research. It is scheduled on 26 th of June probably.
