Engels samenvatting:

Les 1:
1. Skills
1.1. My Skills
 A skill = the ability to perform certain tasks well
 Two types: hard skills (acquired through education/training, e.g.
computer programming, languages) and soft skills (linked to
personality, e.g. communication, empathy, teamwork)
Both are highly valued by employers
Students sorted hospitality-related skills into soft vs. hard categories
and took a soft skills test to identify their profile (customer-oriented,
collaborative, self-reliant, analytical, driven, or creative)

How to write about skills on a CV:

 Tip 1: Show how you've used your skills with concrete examples
 Tip 2: Make your experience stand out by emphasising results
 Tip 3: List technical/hard skills with specific keywords
 Tip 4: Use strong action words (achieve, lead, manage, develop) and
positive adjectives (motivated, reliable, creative)

1.2. My Future
 Key vocabulary: dream (unlikely but desired), plan (set of decisions),
ambition (strong wish), goal (concrete aim)
 Practised using future tenses: I would like to / I'm going to / I'm
planning to / I will…
Discussed professional goals relevant to job interviews ("Where do
you see yourself in five years?")

Les 2
2. What is Communication?
 Sharing information from one person to another
 Communication skills = soft skill; ranges from small (head nod) to big
(presentation)
 4 main types
- Verbal – speaking/sign language (presentations, calls, meetings)
o Strong voice, active listening, avoid filler words

- Nonverbal – body language, gestures, facial expressions; intentional
or unintentional
o Notice emotions physically, be intentional, mimic effective
communicators

- Visual – photos, charts, drawings
o Consider audience, only use if adds value

- Written – writing/typing to convey info (emails, blogs, letters)
o Keep it simple, don't rely on tone, review before sending

2.1. Present

1

, Engels samenvatting:

Simple Present (tegenwoordige tijd)
 Form: base verb + -s (he/she/it) → exceptions: -es, -ies, irregular
verbs (can/may/will)
 Negative: do/does + not + infinitive
 Use: general truths, habits, routines, stative verbs, directions, sports
commentary, film narrative

Present Continuous (tegenwoordige duurvorm)
 Form: to be + verb + -ing (drop silent -e; sometimes double
consonant)
 Use: actions happening now, temporary situations, arrangements,
annoying habits

Both tenses can refer to the future:
 Simple present → timetables, after "when/until"
 Present continuous → personal plans/arrangements

Les 3:
3. Describing Graphs
 Graph = visual representation of data; used in reports & presentations
 Up: increase, rise, grow, climb, boom, skyrocket, peak
 Down: decrease, fall, drop, decline, collapse, plummet
 No movement: remain stable, stay constant, stabilise, remain stagnant
 Up & down: fluctuate, undulate, dip
 Adjectives modify nouns (e.g. a sharp fall); adverbs modify verbs (e.g.
fell sharply)
 Degree: dramatic, significant, considerable, slight
 Speed: rapid, gradual, slow

Past Simple (verleden tijd)
 Form: verb + -ed (regular); irregular verbs must be memorised
 Negative/question: did/didn't + infinitive
 Use: completed actions with specific past time, habits in the past,
events in sequence

Present Perfect (voltooid deelwoord)
 Form: have/has + past participle
 Use: connection between past and present — life experience, result
in present, unfinished actions/states, recent events
 With "for" (period of time) and "since" (fixed point in time)

Key difference:
 Past simple → finished time period ("last week," "yesterday," "in
2003," "ago")
 Present perfect → unfinished time or present relevance ("this week,"
"ever," "just," "already," "yet," "recently," "still")

Les 4:
