What are the initial requirements for a shipboard GFE and when may requirements be
waived? - ANS-REQS:
- CPO+ and completed GFE training course
- 40 hrs OTJ under GFE supervision
- CO written certification
Waiver:
- 40 hrs OTJ if graduated from GFE training within 36 months and unit does not have
qualified GFE onboard
In what should all GFEP be trained? - ANS-- Emergency response procedures
- GFE procedures and techniques
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR IAW Red Cross or MTN
When are GFEP recertified, and what are the recertification requirements? -
ANS-Annually
Requirements:
- Demonstration of capability
- Refresher training
How are all hands and emergency teams trained, and what training records are
maintained? - ANS-- GFE indoctrination training and annually thereafter IAW 074
- Personnel trained in confined space rescue
- Toxic Gas drill outlined in MOB-D

- IDLH requires CO approval
- Request is for opening only, entry authorized using gas free cert
- Can be used to request other services like ventilation or planning for cold work
When are the following certificates required? Hot work certificate - ANS-- Any operation
producing temperatures in excess of 400 degrees
- Categorized into Class I (high energy sparks or slag that can be transferred through
deck, overhead, bulkhead, etc) or Class II (minimal energy sparks generally localized to
immediate work area)
- Typically approved by FM unless space requires gas free

cleaning, or minor repairs where no hot work will be conducted (space inspections,
spray painting, cleaning, strippers, thinners, paints, or cleaners that produce vapors)
