Health Assignment: Suburban
Windshield Survey
Overview
A Windshield Survey is a collection of subjective personal observations on what you see and
experience in a specific environment. Sentinel City® provides you with a safe way to immerse yourself
in several different types of neighborhoods, from the safety of your home or office. For this windshield
survey, you will tour the suburb, record your observations, and submit a written response that
addresses the specific items listed. In this assignment, learners will evaluate the population,
community resources, and health status indicators to determine the selected population's local and
global health risks.

6. Enter Sentinel City® and get on the virtual bus. Since this is your first tour, select the slowest
speed and stay on the bus the entire time.
7. Learners will survey the suburban neighborhood of Lake View.
8. As you take the tour, write down your observations, specifically those that align with the
following demographics and/or subsystems.
9. Describe the characteristics of the people you see in the Lake View Suburb.
a. What is the race/ethnicity distribution, age ranges, and gender mix?
In Casper Park, a variety of ethnic groups were observed, including African Americans, Caucasians,
and maybe even mixed people. The demographics of age range from children to the elderly are as
follows: "2.57% were children under 5 years old, 3.59% were children of 5-17 years old, 93.84% are
older than 18 years old, and roughly 15.62% were 65 years and older," according to Sentinel U
(2022). There were guys and ladies living at Casper Park.
b. Are there signs of poverty or wealth? What are they?
Both obvious indicators of prosperity and poverty are evident; indicators of affluence include a well-
kept neighborhood, a number of businesses, and active transportation options including bicycles,
cars, and the city bus. The people that live in Casper Park, the Graham family, Jeremy Sims, and the
homeless young man Gary Johnson are all examples of people living in poverty. When the residents
of a clean region are impoverished or suffering from a lack of access to food and employment that
allow them to subsist, what good is cleanliness? Sentinel U (2022) reported that Casper Park has an
unemployment rate of 4.09%, which is quite acceptable in a district this size, but it still has an impact
on the residents and the city as a whole.
c. Is the area well maintained or in disrepair?
The neighborhood is kept up, the buildings are tidy, the flats are furnished, and the shops are well-
maintained. There appears to be an increase in trash and homeless people among the neighborhood
shops and streets near Casper Park and Acer Tec Center. The trash on the streets is kept up and
observed.
d. Who do you see on the streets? Parent with a child, teens, couples, disabled persons?
Numerous people with diverse traits may be seen on the streets; I had the opportunity to converse
with a few of them and hear their experiences. Mayor Franklin Hill, Jeremy Sims, Gary Johnson, and
the Graham family. The age range of this group of people included both young and old people, as
