Commuters Stranded
By Staff Reporter, TOI
New Delhi, 12 August 2017: On Friday, hundreds of commuters were stranded in
the Inter-state Bus terminal due to the sudden protest called by the bus operators
against banning of diesel buses.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued an order that diesel buses will no longer
be allowed to ply in the city. The Government had asked the transport department
to put the order into immediate effect. Several people were inconvenienced with
his order. The taxi and auto fares doubled overnight, which further angered the
people. Many people travelling to other states with their families were left with no
option but to cancel their trips. Buses were burnt and public property damaged by
the angry crowds. There is a demand that the court should review the order and a
further deadline be given to bus operators. The Government is moving to court
with a petition.
The officials informed TOI that discussions are being held with the operators and
a resolution will be reached soon.
