Study guide covering chemical equilibrium for board exam preparation. Topics include equilibrium definition and characteristics, types of equilibrium (homogeneous, heterogeneous, physical, chemical, ionic), the Law of Mass Action, equilibrium constants (Kc and Kp), Le Chatelier's Principle, and practical applications in industrial and biological systems. Well-structured with clear explanations of key concepts, definitions, and worked examples—essential for mastering equilibrium concepts before your board exam.

Chemical Equilibrium and Its Types
1. Introduction to Chemical Equilibrium
In many chemical reactions, the reaction does not go to completion. Instead, it reaches a state
where:

 Reactants are still present
 Products are also present
 No further visible change occurs

This state is called chemical equilibrium.

2. Definition
Chemical equilibrium is a state in which the rate of forward reaction equals the rate of
reverse reaction, and the concentrations of reactants and products remain constant.

3. Characteristics of Chemical Equilibrium
 It is dynamic, not static
 Forward and reverse reactions continue
 Concentrations remain constant (not necessarily equal)
 Achieved in a closed system
 Can be reached from either direction

4. Dynamic Nature of Equilibrium
Even at equilibrium:

 Forward reaction → forming products
 Reverse reaction → forming reactants

👉 Both occur at equal rates

5. Types of Chemical Equilibrium

1. Homogeneous Equilibrium
