Tx DM; monitor blood glucose levels. PT for pain
management, safe EX program, foot care, fitness.

Degeneration/atrophy of the BG and cerebral cortex. NT
become deficient and are unable to modulate mov't.

unknown. Hypo that lower levels of NT, higher levels of
aluminum in brain, genetics, AI dz, abnormal processing
of amyloid, virus. Risk increase w/ age and if female.

cerebral cortex and subcortical areas. Neurons
normally assoc. w/ Ach transmission deteriorate.
Develop amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles.

Sx: Vary. Slow and progressive weakness, fatigue, mm
atrophy, pain, swallowing probs.
Tx: No med intervention.

control behavior. Tacrine (cognex), donepezil (Aricept)
, and rivastigmine (Exelon). PT should focus on
maximizing function.
