These are my virtue ethics notes and summary from year 10/ 9th grade. They apply for year 9+ though. It was all I needed to pass my assessment. It's a short but in depth, informational summary and points about virtue ethics. What that is, how to apply it, who made it, and other facts. They will be useful for any philosophy/ psychology students, or anyone who wants to learn more about human nature!

Virtue Ethics


Virtue ethics is a moral philosophy that emphasizes an
individual's character rather than following strict rules or
calculating the consequences of actions.


What is Virtue Ethics?​
Virtue Ethics is the practice of doing what a morally good person would
do. (Modelling your behaviour/ actions on theirs.) It was created by
Aristotle, an ancient Greek philosopher. Aristotle believed that you
should always ask ‘what would a good person do?’ Virtue Ethicists argue
that trying to be the best person you can possibly be and practicing traits
like ambition, bravery, kindness, etc, will enable you to live a better life.
But sometimes we don’t know what the perfect person would do so it
comes down to our judgement.

An example of someone using Virtue Ethics;
A man is walking on the street, he sees a boy crying on the side of the
road, he is about to walk in the other direction, but then thinks ‘what
would a good person do?’ and decides that a good person would go and
help the boy, so that's what he does.

Notes;

When making a decision or following through with an action, Instead of
asking “what should I do?” Aristotle believed that we should ask
ourselves “what sort of person should I be?”

Instead of defining a good person as someone who does good things.
Aristotle would define good actions as those done by good people.
