This paper is to help direct and introduce the use of a case study. In psychology, case studies are
essential and used to collect the data that allows testing theories and new theories. This will
enable psychologists to further research and experiment in detail.
Explanation of a case study
Case studies are in-depth examinations of a single person, group, event, or community. Within a
case study, information is typically collected from various sources and by using several
distinctive methods. Study case research method originated in clinical medicine; in psychology,
case studies are often restricted to examining a singular individual. The information is mainly
biographical and relates to events in an individual's past and significant events that are currently
occurring in his/her everyday life (Dr. McLeod, 2019). Case studies should provide valid results
for the development of future research.
Strengths and Limitations of case study approach
Case studies bring along a variety of advantages, but like any form of research, it carries its
disadvantages as well. Case studies allow the researcher to examine a topic in further detail than
might be possible if they were to deal with a vast number of participants. This being said, case
