Purpose: Rapid identification and management of life-threatening problems.
A — Airway
Assess
Is the patient talking?
Signs of obstruction (snoring, gurgling, stridor)
Foreign body / swelling / vomit
Immediate Actions
Call for help if needed
Head tilt–chin lift (if no spinal injury)
Jaw thrust (if trauma suspected)
Suction secretions
Insert airway adjunct (OPA/NPA)
Prepare for advanced airway if required
B — Breathing
Assess
Respiratory rate
Oxygen saturation
Chest expansion
Use of accessory muscles
Auscultation (wheeze, crackles, absent breath sounds)
Immediate Actions
Administer oxygen
Position patient upright if appropriate
