QUESTION 1

1.1 List the FOUR steps related to creative writing in children's literature.

The four steps related to creative writing (CHL2601 Study Guide, Unit 5.7, pp. 101-103):

Step Description

1.Planning During this phase, learners need to understand what they need to write
about and generate ideas accordingly. This can be done with the help of a
visual diagram where ideas are organised under suitable headings, using
a simple grid or flow diagram to structure the storyline

(CHL2601 Study Guide, Unit 5.7.1, p. 101).

2. Drafting The purpose of writing a draft is to teach learners that writing is a process.
Drafting involves grouping ideas, reading, changing and adding, until the
learner is satisfied. It is not about writing the same story twice or finding all
spelling errors

(CHL2601 Study Guide, Unit 5.7.2, p. 103).

3.Revising Teachers need to ensure that revision is done by providing learners with a
mechanism such as a revision checklist to guide their evaluation. Revising
is not just proof-reading the draft – it has to be re-examined and re-
evaluated

(CHL2601 Study Guide, Unit 5.7.3, p. 103).

, 4.Publishing When a piece of writing is merely done in the exercise book, it is not
authentic writing. The work has to be made available to an audience
through a class newspaper, creating own books for the reading corner, or
ring-binding stories into readers

(CHL2601 Study Guide, Unit 5.7.4, pp. 103-104).
