Grammar 1 – The Present Continuous
Present Continuous (to be+verb+ing)
De present continuous herken je aan zinnen die NU gebeuren.
Je gebruikt het werkwoord van to be (am/are/is) + werkwoord + -ing. Zie hieronder enkele
voorbeelden.

➢ I am teaching at the moment.
➢ The water is boiling. You can make tea now.
➢ It is raining. Let’s stay in.
➢ He is working very hard today.
➢ My mother is going to the supermarket. Do you want anything?

De present continuous kun je ook gebruiken als je wilt aangeven dat iemand iets regelmatig doet dat
je irriteert. Vaak wordt always dan in de zin gebruikt.

➢ She is always showing off!
➢ He is always watching TV!
➢ Why are you teasing me all the time?


Grammar 2 – Vragen maken
Vragen maak je met een vorm van to do (do, does, did) + het hele werkwoord
➢ Did they walk home yesterday?
➢ Do you drink tea?
➢ Does he live in the United Kingdom?

LET OP: Als je vragen stelt, gebruik je het hele werkwoord. Het werkwoord blijft dus ALTIJD in de
tegenwoordige tijd (zie de onderstreepte woorden in de voorbeelden hierboven).

Vragen maak je met een vorm van to be (am, are, is, was, were )
➢ Are you a good student?
➢ Is he your brother?
➢ Were they homesick?

Vragen maak je ook met hulpwerkwoorden (can, could, will, would, must, may, might)
➢ Could you help me, please?
➢ Might I ask you something?
➢ Can he read?
➢ Will she help you tomorrow?

Tot slot, kun je ook vragen maken met vragende voornaamwoorden (who, why, what, where, how,
when)
➢ Who visits you everyday?
➢ What happened?
➢ Why are you sad?
