Analysis
WEEK WEEK 6
ABC Model and PIC/NIC Analysis
The ABC Model of Bx
ANT ECEDENT > BEHAV IOUR > CONSEQUENCE
What is an SD?
Signals availability of Sr+/-
What is an S delta?
Signals extinction
What is an AO?
The value of Sr+/- decreases
What is an EO?
The value of Sr+/- increases
Antecedents
What are antecedents?
Signals in our environment in which we respond.
It is important to note that antecedents and consequences are not equal in
their effect on bx.
ABC Model and PIC/NIC Analysis 1
, What are Motivating Operations MO?
Occur simultaneously with antecedents prior to bx to alter the value of a
consequence of an individual.
Behaviour
What are bxs in PM?
Subject of interest in PM are operant bxs.
What are Discretionary bx?
Those bxs that occur beyond minimal required by the organization.
Consequences
What are consequences in bx?
Bx consequences are events that follow a bx and change the probability
that the bx will recur in the future.
They are the single most effective tool a manager has for improving
employee performance and morale.
The ABC Model of Behaviour
Behaviour Consequence
Bill tells boss he can't finish work on time Boss gives him overtime pay to complete it
Jane turns in budget ahead of time Is asked to help other complete their work
Tom tells a boss of a sale made Boss gives him a high 5
Programmer complains of too much work Boss hires temp programmer to help
The Value of Consequences to the Performer Determines their
Effect
💡 Different strokes for different folks.
