What makes up a community?
Why are communities important?
General list of communities:
Cultural community ethnic heritage
Identity gender, class, shared interest
Sporting community does not mean people who play the sport – they could
be football supporters.
Where we live similar economic and cultural identification, shared interest

Place gives a very important sense of community especially for migrants
The Sikh community for example – the biggest Sikh temple is situated in
Southall. There tends to be a process by which communities are established
around where they worship, but as time goes by, they branch out to other
areas.
Leicester is actually a very diverse place
North London is the centre of the Jewish community
The media perpetuates that a certain community lives only in a certain area.
How do they do that? Using key sound bites, doing quick interviews with
someone to get a perspective from that community. The media can reduce
these parts of London to a single identity.
