QUESTION ONE – CONTEXTUAL QUESTIONNAIRE – (5 MARKS)

Answer the following open-ended questions to the best of your ability and give as much
information as possible.

1. Describe the school where you did your practical teaching (location, age, facilities, how
many learners are enrolled at the school, how many teachers teach at the school, the
language of learning and teaching, etc).

Jeppe Primary School is located in the Lankloof area in the Eastern Cape. The school serves
learners from the senior secondary phase, offering grades 1 to 9. It has a total of 32 learners
enrolled, which allows for smaller, more focused class sizes. The school is equipped with basic
facilities such as classrooms, a library, and sports areas. There is a small but dedicated team of
teachers, each specializing in their respective subjects. The language of learning and teaching at
the school is primarily English, although some learners may use their home languages for
communication.

2. Describe the classroom in which you did your practical teaching (size, facilities, learning
and teaching support materials, classroom atmosphere, etc).

The classroom where I taught was a moderate size, accommodating the 32 learners comfortably.
It was equipped with essential facilities like desks and chairs for each student, a whiteboard, and a
chalkboard for writing lessons. Learning and teaching support materials included textbooks, some
visual aids like posters, and occasionally digital resources for interactive learning. The atmosphere
in the classroom was generally calm and conducive to learning, with students displaying interest in
the lessons. There was a positive rapport between learners and teachers, which encouraged active
participation and discussions.

3. Describe the learners you taught during your practical teaching (number per class, degree
of readiness to learn, their home environmental conditions, participation, etc).

The class consisted of 32 learners who were generally eager to learn, although their levels of
readiness varied. Some learners were highly motivated and engaged, contributing actively in class
discussions and activities. Others required more encouragement and support to participate. The
